Junior Coaches

While it may seem a long way away, with preparations already underway for 2019 we can announce our junior football coaches today. Junior Coordinator Shane McCarty has been working hard on securing great coaches who will work well with our young players and aid in their continued football development.

John Polkinghorne returns at U/17 senior coach, ably assisted by Shane and Glenn McGuire will take a step up from the U/14’s in 2018 to join them as a line coach. Glenn has had many years of coaching experience in both senior and junior football with us and Talbot and will bring experience to the role. Travis Ford takes the big leap from U/10’s to the U/17’s reserve position. Travis comes from a long time North Ballarat family and his own successful football career to bring his knowledge to our reserves boys.

In the U/15’s we welcome Gerard Faulkner back to the fold this year as a permanent coach. Gerard in 2018 took over the U/14 reserves to help us out when needed and to support the club. Gerard has plenty of coaching experience and we thank him for taking on the role.

In our U/13’s it is great to have former junior and senior player, now junior father Kal Young coming back to the club as a coach. Kal returned in 2016 as a senior player after coaching and playing with Sebastopol and Newlyn before having time away again to concentrate on his own game. It is great to have Kal back again at the club and bringing his skills and knowledge to our junior boys. In the reserves we welcome Peter ‘Slab’ Bowman back. Premiership winning coach this year, Pete has signed up again and will hopefully go back to back.

This year there has been a change in the junior competition with the age groups leaping up in the two older grades and the youngest competition which was previously U/10 has been raised to U/11 and now becomes a proper competition with teams playing for positions on the ladder and premiership points. Our U/9’s will now be classified as the development sides. Ben Gallagher returns to the junior coaching ranks to lead our U/11 seniors and Spider Moloney returns with the U/11 reserves. Both men bring a wealth of experience in managing young players and making the experience fun and challenging for them all. Marcus Driscoll will once again lead our development players in the U/9’s.

We still have vacancies with the U/15 reserves and U/9 reserves so if there are any willing parents out there who may want to look at taking on a role then we are happy to hear from you. Our junior coordinator Shane McCarty would be happy to fill you in on the requirements. Shane’s number is 0419 276 962 if you would like to find out further information.
