Kangaroos Hop over North

It was a disappointing day for the senior group on Saturday at the Eastern Oval with only one win for the whole day in both football and netball. Unfortunately East were too good on the day.

The seniors set off to a fair start but by were unable to maintain the pace into the second quarter and East Point kicked four goals to pull ahead by almost three goals going into the half time break. After a stirring speech by coach Shane Skontra, the boys came back out and showed they could play with five goals to three and entered the third quarter with a one point deficit and the momentum seemingly with them. Unfortunately East were able to come over the top of us in the final quarter and ex North junior Matt Johnston was a stand out in the last term for them. We remain third on the ladder and will need to regroup for this weekend against an improving Lake Wendouree.

Our reserves and Under 18.5’s were also unsuccessful on the day with the Under 18.5 game certainly a close one and well contested by the boys. The two clubs will certainly be featuring in the pointy end of the season.

Our juniors were host to Darley on the weekend and had a very successful day with all teams in the football coming through with a win. All netball teams bar one also had a win and were down several representative players who were playing elsewhere. The juniors are having a successful year with both U/14 teams and both U/12 teams currently holding the top spot on the ladder. Our U/16.5 boys are also working hard and doing well despite reduced numbers on our list.

Lastly, we cannot forget our girls who have both the U/13 girls and U/18 youth girls doing so well and both also current ladder leaders. What a great result and a credit to all involved keeping those teams afloat with volunteer support. Well done.
