North City enter the Interleague bye in a good position with 3 wins out of 4 games and a great game to end on against Ballarat with Ballarat unable to score a goal for the game. It was a different looking side that started the game against Ballarat from our side that was taught a lesson by Bacchus Marsh the week before. A quick goal after the bounce to Harry Loader and the boys were away with great running play and strong defensive work. Shane Hutchinson, Ballarat’s coach and ever dangerous as a player was shut down for the majority of the game with some tight play by the boys. Our midfield and wings set a fast and persistent pace. Mitch Gilbert and Ben Simpson both playing well through the midfield with some excellent transitional play.
Five goals to Will Young and four to Sam Dunstan has kept both boys in the 1 and 2 position on the goal kicking leader’s board for the Ballarat Football League and Sam has also made the BFNL interleague side that takes on the Goulburn Valley interleague side on Saturday at the MCG.
Our Reserves had their first win in one thousand and thirty one days as they overcame Ballarat by 9 points. There were a few celebratory drinks to be had as the boys came from behind to win in the last quarter. It was terrific to see players such as Xavier Carey, Mitch Hay and Jacob Duffy having success in the reserves after sticking with the club following their junior years. Jacob also played his 200th club game on the day.
Unfortunately our U/18.5’s didn’t have such a good game and left the Alfredton Recreation Reserve licking some wounds after a disappointing loss. With only 19 boys being available on the day for the game it was a hard ask with a shortened bench but they will have some work and thinking to do on the training track this week.
